Tragedy struck central Beirut on Tuesday when a massive explosion erupted in the Lebanese capital, killing dozens and injuring thousands.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the news of the Beirut explosion, saying that Canadians are thinking of injured victims and their families today, as well as those trying to locate a loved one.

An eyewitness tells CNN that the scene in Beirut is "like an apocalypse." 

The outlet reports that the blast was so powerful that it was felt on the island of Cyprus, hundreds of miles away.
