A resurgence of the novel coronavirus is sweeping through the province. Ontario's new COVID-19 cases hit nearly 480 on Tuesday, for the first time since early May. 

Health Minister Christine Elliott reported 478 new cases of the disease in Ontario.

Of these, 153 are in Toronto, 95 are in Peel, and 90 are in Ottawa — the three regions that just had their gathering limits drastically reduced.

Elliott notes that 68% of the new infections are among people under the age of 40.

It is the first time since May 2 that the daily case count has been this high.
