NIVEA Is Giving Canadians The Chance To Win A Free Flight To Reconnect With Loved Ones

Here's how you could win.

Contributing writer

When you think of basic human needs, food, water and shelter might come to mind. But some other needs — that are just as essential — aren't always prioritized, like safety, self-identity, self-fulfillment and human connection. No wonder stay-at-home orders had many people feeling lonely — the pandemic made it difficult to meet these needs.

Positive relationships are so important for your general well-being. Connecting with others positively enhances your psychological state and encourages you to grow, learn and succeed. Though social media connects people immediately, loneliness is a huge problem.

According to a recent global report by NIVEA, there's a concerning level of touch deprivation among people around the world, including Canadians, and it's been made worse by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Of those asked, 82% said the pandemic's forced isolation has made them realize how important touch is for mental health, and nearly half said that isolation has made them feel lonelier than ever.

As social distancing measures lift, you'll finally be able to reconnect with your people in person, and NIVEA wants to help you make up for all that lost time. The skin-care brand is giving one lucky person a flight credit so that the winner can reconnect with loved ones that they've missed over the past year and a half.

The contest, which is running on NIVEA Canada's Instagram and TikTok until November 11, is open to Canadian residents who are at least 18 years old. The giveaway is part of NIVEA's Care for Human Touch campaign, which shines a light on the importance of in-person interactions and the psychological benefits of simple physical gestures.

When you're touched, your heart rate calms, symptoms of anxiety are reduced, stress hormones decrease, and feel-good hormones increase. The power of physical touch is so great that it can even ease dementia-related agitation and aid the recovery of premature babies.

As a skincare expert, NIVEA's priority is to make sure your skin is feeling good. Their iconic Crème tin provides nourishment and protective care, allowing you to feel like your best self.

Go on, get connected and bring on the hugs!
