Doug Ford is reportedly going to announce new Ontario COVID-19 restrictions that will apply to the whole province and come into effect on Christmas Eve.

UPDATE: New sources from 680 News reportedly say that all of Ontario will enter the grey zone of lockdown rules starting on Christmas Eve.

This would be the most severe and widespread set of COVID-19 restrictions in the province since March.

EARLIER: According to an article from Global News, the Premier will announce the restrictions on Monday afternoon.

Global News said their sources did not provide any details about the potential new measures.

The news comes just two days after a CBC article claimed Ford was considering a Southern Ontario lockdown after Christmas.

He held an emergency meeting on Friday with Ontario's top doctors and medical officers and ruled nothing out when it came to restricting COVID-19 cases in the province.

Tons of people have been calling for harsher lockdown restrictions, including the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA).

In a letter, the OHA wrote that Ontario's situation was "extremely serious" and called for a four-week lockdown across the entire province.

Teaching unions have also called for a weeks-long lockdown due to fears of a Christmas bump in cases.

Case counts across the province are continuing to rise, and Toronto Mayor John Tory has said he talked to Doug Ford about tightening the province's lockdown.

"I think people should look back to what we had back in the spring," Tory told CP24.
