John Tory Says Toronto Could See Even Tighter Restrictions Around The Holidays

He says the measures could be like "what we had back in the spring."

As the holiday season gets underway, Mayor John Tory says Toronto's lockdown measures could tighten even more in the coming days.

The mayor told CP24 that he's reached Ford's government about ramping up restrictions after December 21.

Tory told the outlet that these measures could be reminiscent of what life was like in the spring, at the start of the pandemic.

"Everyone deserves some notice which means the decision has to be made before next Sunday," he said.

While the exact measures are still being discussed, Tory said to CP24 that he hopes to include the city's surrounding areas.

Ultimately, the decision will have to be made by the provincial government.

Premier Doug Ford admitted on Tuesday that "everything is on the table" when it comes to imposing stricter measures, which could include a post-Christmas shutdown similar to Quebec's.

Recently, the mayor said that it's possible for students to stay in classrooms into the summer if winter break is extended.
