One of the best parts about living on a peninsula is the ability to fish pretty much anywhere. And it’s not just prime fishing spots that Florida boasts, but some world-famous scallop grounds, too! For the dedicated seafood lover or just the curious adventurer, this scalloping tour in Florida is a super unique and fun way to hunt for your own food.

You can join River Ventures on a memorable hunt in the Gulf of Mexico, where you’ll explore the lush grass beds of the Homosassa River in search of fresh Florida scallops. Citrus County has become a world-famous destination for hunting scallops, and the summer months are peak hunting season.

The tour lasts about 5 hours and includes all the gear you’ll need to hunt efficiently. For $79 per person, you’re allowed to gather up to 2 gallons of scallops per person, or 10 gallons total for the boat.

You might even run into some exciting wildlife while you’re searching, including dolphins, sea turtles, seahorses, even eels!

Since the captain cannot legally leave the boat, you’ll be on your own once you jump in the water. However, you can pay for an in-water guide for an extra $65.

If you consider yourself a strong swimmer, this tour is perfect, because sometimes the Gulf can get a little choppy.

You may be hunting in depths between 4 and 10 feet depending on the tides.

You’ll have the best chance of hunting on days that are clear and sunny with low tides, but sometimes heavy rains and unpredictable weather can stir things up a bit.

There's nothing quite like fresh seafood, so unlock your inner mermaid and go on a diving adventure for your very own Florida scallops!
