Humanitarian aid incoming! That was the message Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had at the recent United Nations conference, where he announced that Canada will be pledging $400 million in humanitarian aid to help curb COVID-19. 

According to the Canadian Press, Trudeau said the new money will go to trusted partners that are working to combat the virus in all corners of the world. 

The United Nations conference, co-hosted with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness, was intended to discuss financing and development in the era of the pandemic, according to the report.

At this moment, we have the opportunity to reimagine our economic systems, reaffirm our common understanding of a more sustainable and inclusive recovery and re-establish momentum toward achieving the SDGs to build back better.

This was the second time the three leaders held a meeting this year.

Trudeau also said Canada will invest more in the coming years and continue to push for debt relief for countries who are undergoing economic hardship as a result of the pandemic.

Additionally, he said Canada will advocate for those countries and ensure their voices do not go unheard in larger forums such as the G7, G20 and the World Bank.
