The Lineup For Kingston's COVID-19 Testing Centre Was Enormous On Friday (PHOTOS)
A massive line was seen on Friday morning as people waited outside a Kingston COVID-19 testing centre. This happened the day after a report of an outbreak at one of the city's nail salons. Now, the centre is facing a long queue as people lined up early to get tested in response.
On June 25, KFL&A Public Health confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at Kingston's Binh’s Nail and Spa Salon.
The public health unit is asking anyone who visited the salon between June 12 and June 24 to get tested and self-isolate.
And, this morning, images of stretching lineups were posted on Twitter as people waited for testing outside the city's COVID-19 centre.
The queues were so long, they apparently snaked down several streets.
"Kingston’s covid 19 testing centre doesn’t open for another hour and this is the line. Already wrapped right around Alfred Street to the track," Twitter user @LisasEyeRoll posted.
Another user captured an image of the line this morning, noting that she was "happy that most people were wearing masks!"
The lines were also present at the testing centre yesterday afternoon.
"Lineup around block and then some at Memorial Centre," Twitter user @EddySr1728 captioned a video of a lengthy queue.
The nail salon outbreak on Thursday was reported less than two weeks after the city moved into stage two.
KFL&A Public Health noted in a press release that it has launched an investigation of the outbreak.
“The well-being of Binh’s Nail and Spa customers and estheticians in the salon is our top priority along with ensuring adherence to proper sanitization and cleaning,” Dr. Kieran Moore said in the release.
“At this time, the salon will be closed until it is safe to re-open.”
According to CBC News, 18 COVID-19 cases have been linked to the salon so far, with nearly 700 people told to receive testing.
Even if that test comes back negative, people are still being asked to self-isolate.
Over the last few months, Kingston had reported a low number of COVID-19 cases and even looked into the possibility of reopening back in April.
