An Ottawa School Has Shut Down For 2 Weeks After Staff & Students Got COVID-19

It's the first school in the city to temporarily close. 😳

An Ottawa elementary school has become the first in the city to close again due to rising cases of COVID-19. On Saturday, it was reported that Monsignor Paul Baxter School will shut down for around two weeks. It's closing after multiple students and staff tested positive for the illness.

On September 19, the Ottawa Catholic School Board confirmed to CTV News that two students and two staff members at the school had tested positive for COVID-19.

It’s the first education facility in the city to close down again due to coronavirus concerns.

The board also confirmed that the school was working closely with Ottawa Public Health and following the recommended guidance. They say close contacts have already been notified.

This comes as Ottawa's top doctor admitted the city appears to be experiencing the second wave of COVID-19.

Earlier this week, an Ontario high school was shut down for the same reason. Fellowes High School in Pembroke confirmed it would be closing until further notice after three cases of the illness were reported.
