The Ontario government is expanding the eligibility of COVID-19 booster shots this week as part of the province's new fast-tracked plan to reopen.

During a press conference on Monday morning, Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario would expand booster dose eligibility to children aged 12 to 17 starting on Friday, February 18 at 8 a.m.

The Ontario government has announced it is now getting prepared to vaccinate children 5 to 11 years old against COVID-19.

As of November 19, Health Canada gave the green light for the Pfizer vaccine to be given to this age group. Following that announcement, Christine Elliott, Ontario's minister of health, and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones put out a statement for how this will play out in Ontario.

Ontario just announced that even more people across the province will be able to get a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine starting this Saturday.

On November 3, Ontario's Ministry of Health revealed its rollout plan for COVID-19 booster doses, which will open eligibility to certain priority groups on November 6. This will include anyone 70 or older, health care workers and essential caregivers who work in congregate settings, and anyone who's received a complete series of AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines. First Nations, Inuit and Métis adults and their non-Indigenous household members are also eligible.

The Ontario government is revealing its plans today for when COVID-19 vaccine booster doses become available in the province.

On October 29, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) released its recommendations for how to roll out third doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Canadians. Later that day, Minister of Health Christine Elliott announced that Ontarians will learn more about the province's plan for when they can get their third doses sometime this week.
