The Weeknd Is Boycotting The Grammy Awards After Being Snubbed

His 2020 album 'After Hours' received zero nominations.

This Sunday will celebrate the 63rd annual Grammy awards, but one artist who took the world by storm last year will not be making an appearance.

The Weeknd, whose single, "Blinding Lights," was on repeat for many around the world, ended up receiving zero Grammy nominations for the hit song or the album it was featured on, After Hours.

Editor's Choice: The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights' Just Set A Major Milestone

The annual award ceremony has received much scrutiny after a growing list of Black artists, including Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Drake, and now The Weeknd, have expressed their discontent with the nomination process.

In an interview with The New York Times, The Weeknd said that he is now boycotting the awards because of their "secret committees" and he "will no longer allow [his] label to submit [his] music."

The artist won his first Grammy in 2015 for "Best R&B Performance" thanks to his single, "Earned It," and has taken home two "Best Urban Contemporary Album" Grammys with his 2017 album, Starboy, and 2015's Beauty Behind The Madness.
