These Top Chefs Are Teaching Canadians How To Make Restaurant-Quality Meals For Free
Take your ordinary meals to extraordinary with these how-to videos from Belgian Moon.
With the boom in home-cooking in the past year, you might be tired of the same old recipes and flavour combinations. Perhaps you're hoping to find your new go-to weeknight meal or want an exciting new recipe to impress your S/O with on the weekend. Or maybe you're just craving something that isn't pasta.
Whatever your reason for wanting to get more creative in the kitchen, there are tons of free resources out there to help you elevate your meals — like these how-to videos from top Canadian chefs Francis Blais and Camilo Lapointe-Nascimento.
In partnership with Belgian Moon, Francis and Camilo have jumped on YouTube to show Canadians how they can improve their meals at home by learning from the pros. As part of their #ArtfullyCrafted series, these two chefs have created a video to show you how to make restaurant-quality corn dogs from the comfort of your own kitchen.
That's right, the classic golden-brown deep-fried hot dogs can be made right at home. All you need is a few simple ingredients like ground pork, eggs, flour, cornmeal, some spices and the right instructions.
To take your next meal from good to great, you can pair this savoury dish with a Belgian Moon LightSky — a refreshing wheat beer brewed with real tangerine peel that goes nicely with the corn dog's buttermilk batter.
Artfully Crafted Corn Dogs
Ingredients:
Corn Dog Sausage
- 350 g ground pork
- 150 g chopped bacon
- 7 g salt
- 50 ml 35% cream
- 12 g flour
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon mix of ground nutmeg, pepper and clove
Corn Batter
- 190 g flour
- 65 g sugar
- 30 g cornmeal
- 6 g salt
- 4 g baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 200 g buttermilk
Method: Mix the corn dog sausage ingredients together and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Then, shape the mixture into eight small sausages.
For the batter, mix all the wet ingredients together, then combine all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Combine the two until you get the consistency of a thick pancake batter.
Half fill a medium-sized saucepan with cooking oil and bring the temperature of the oil to 350°C.
Dip one sausage all the way into the batter, and use a spoon to remove it. Gently drop the corn dog in the oil and remove it once it gets a nice golden brown (about eight minutes). You need to carefully flip the corn dog in the oil halfway through (be careful to not splash the very hot oil).
Let the corn dog sit for at least five minutes on a cooling rack before eating.
Once you've had your fill of corn dogs and are looking for more recipes to try, check out Francis and Camilo's caesar salad and smoked salmon bagel recipes to see how these easy recipes get the restaurant treatment.
Next time you're in the kitchen, you can cook with confidence knowing that with just a couple of tricks, it's easy to turn any ordinary meal into something extraordinary.
