Tim Hortons is trying out new lids and it's for the good of the environment.
On February 20, the company announced that all of the restaurants in one Canadian province will undergo a 12-week test of plastic-free, fibre hot beverage lids as part of Tim Hortons' initiative to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The lids, which will be tested at Tim Hortons locations in Prince Edward Island, are an improved version of a lid that was tested in Vancouver in 2023.
"The goal of the trial is to work toward developing a guest-friendly alternative to plastic lids that are easier to compost or recycle, while still providing a great drinking experience," says Tim Hortons.
The lids at Tim Hortons have long been a point of contention, particularly when they switched from the "flat" lid a few years ago which even drew the ire of Justin Bieber.
"I know they could leak but it was easier to drink out of.. the coffee would come out better.. these new lids are uncomfortable on the mouth, and you get very little liquid each drink it's a damn outrage and needs to be changed back," Bieber wrote back in 2019.
"Tbh it shouldn't be plastic find a way to be recyclable let's change the world 1 lid at a time."
Maybe these new lids being trialled in P.E.I. will do just that!
