As Ontario navigates its second wave of COVID-19, some areas of the province have been hit harder than others.

Two GTA neighbourhoods, in particular, are reporting significantly higher positivity rates than the provincial average of 3.9%.

According to the ICES Ontario COVID-19 dashboard, which identifies communities by the first three letters of their postal codes, there are two GTA neighbourhoods that currently have a positivity rate of over 20%.

That's double the current national average positivity rate in the United States, which sits at 10.5%, as reported by Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.

The area with the highest positivity rate in Ontario is a neighbourhood (M1X) just north of Malvern and Rouge, close to the Toronto Zoo, which has a positivity rate of 20.5%.

The second highest rates are in York — more specifically, the Kleinburg or L0J region, which is sitting at 20.4%.

There are 27 additional postal code areas in Ontario that have a higher positivity rate than the US' national average of 10.5%.

Toronto and Peel are the only regions in the province that are now in lockdown, or the "grey" zone of the national COVID-19 framework.

To date, the province has recorded a total of 121,746 COVID-19 infections.
