Canada's tennis sweetheart and the U.S. Open defending champion will not be winning the title again this year.

An announcement on her Instagram made Thursday afternoon, August 13, revealed that Bianca Andreescu's U.S. Open bid is out the window, as she's dropping out of this year's tournament.

She cites the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has prevented many tournaments being held in recent months, as one reason for pulling out.

'Unforeseen challenges, including the Covid pandemic, have compromised my ability to prepare and compete to the degree necessary to play at my highest level," she wrote over Instagram.

Last week, the U.S. Open ran a promotional banner for the 2020 edition that didn't feature Bianca despite her 2019 win, so perhaps they knew something we didn't.
