An Area Of Ontario Says A Bunch Of New COVID-19 Cases Are Down To One Boat Trip

This is another reminder that just because an area has moved to stage three, that doesn't mean life can return to normal.

A "cluster" of 12 new cases of COVID-19 in an Ontario municipality, Chatham-Kent, is linked to one recent boating trip, according to the municipality's public health unit on Thursday, August 6.

12 new COVID-19 cases in Chatham-Kent are linked to a boating trip involving multiple households.

A CKPH news release says the trip took place outside the municipality, which is around an hour from the U.S.-Canada border at Windsor, over the course of numerous days. The dozen cases are now being isolated.

The public health unit is also attempting to trace all the contacts of the people who tested positive for the virus but says there are "a very large number."

However, per Blackburn News, the area's Medical Officer of Health stated the people involved will not be fined as they didn't technically go against a specific health order. "Our purpose is to help people, not to punish them," Dr. David Colby said.
