A GoFundMe set up to support the family of Julia Ferguson, who died on Sunday, September 5, has raised over $66,000.

On Thursday, September 2, 29-year-old Julia Ferguson was at downtown Toronto law firm Hicks Adams L.L.P. where she worked as a receptionist. At 1:52 p.m., a man entered the establishment and stabbed her in the chest. When paramedics arrived, the victim did not show any vital signs but was resuscitated and rushed to the ER.

Ferguson succumbed to a puncture wound in her heart on Sunday. The assailant, 33-year-old Osman Osman, is in custody and has been charged.

On September 6, Ferguson's family and friends set up a GoFundMe with a goal of $25,000. At the time of publishing this article, the fundraiser had surpassed its goal at nearly $67,000 from 439 donors.

"Julia was one of the sweetest, most kind-hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and knowing," wrote one donor on the GoFundMe page. "She was always the brightest light in the room and will be missed dearly," another said.

"We are overwhelmed with the outpouring love and support we have received from everyone." the Ferguson family wrote in an update yesterday. "From donations to shares to kind words and prayers. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. You have helped in giving Jules the send-off she deserves. With all your support we have managed to not only meet our goal but surpass it. This will give the Ferguson family time to focus on healing from their loss and celebrating Julia's life without financial burden. You are all so appreciated. Thank you so much."

According to a news release issued by Toronto Police Services yesterday, Osman Osman of Toronto stabbed Ferguson and fled the scene. He later surrendered and was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.

The charges are expected to be upgraded.

Narcity reached out to the Ferguson family for comment but did not hear back by the time this story went to press.
