Marvel's newest movie will have a Canadian star. Iman Vellani, from Markham, Ontario, will play Ms. Marvel in an upcoming Disney Plus series.

The role will be of Kamala Khan, a Muslim teen who has the superpower of shape-shifting limbs.

This will be Vellani's first major role. It's her first credit on IMDb!

"Speechless and excited! Wish me luck," Vellani wrote on Instagram on Wednesday night.

Vellani appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival where she was part of a panel of "upcoming film enthusiasts," which was comprised of youth ranging from 15 to 18 years old.

The character of Ms. Marvel made its first appearance in the Captain Marvel comics in 1976. Kamala Khan made her first appearance in a 2014 comic.

Vellani got praise from some celebrities after her casting was announced.

American actor Kumail Nanjiana praised Vellani on Twitter.

"I just saw they cast Ms. Marvel and legit got teary eyed. Congratulations Iman Vellani! Your work is going to mean so much to so many people, myself included. I can't wait."
