Thousands of people have now signed petitions that call for the Ford government to reopen Ontario campsites.

During Ontario's stay-at-home order, camping at both Ontario Parks and crown land has been prohibited.

However, an appeal, which has gathered over 12,500 signatures, was started last week in an effort to remove camping prohibitions on crown land.

"Given the amount of crown land, there can be no sensible reason to prohibit camping province-wide due to COVID-19," Jesse Lacroix, organizer, argues in the petition's description.

A second petition was also started in the hopes of reversing Ontario Parks' recent decision to shut down overnight camping as well.
