Buckle up, because Ontario's weather is about to go full winter mode on us.

Much of southern Ontario awoke to snowfall this morning, but that's just the beginning of this December 1 storm.

Parts of Ontario will experience high winds and heavy snow on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

According to The Weather Network, the southern Georgian Bay area will get the most snow, which could be anywhere from 30 to 50 centimetres.

Winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour are expected in areas near Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

Environment Canada's weather alert warns of strong northerly winds in the Barrie, Orillia and Midland regions.

Environment Canada cautions Ontario residents to drive carefully this morning, as driving conditions could be treacherous — especially in higher terrain areas.

By Wednesday, the low-pressure system causing the extreme weather is predicted to move east into Quebec.
