Queen's University Tells All Students To Stay Off Campus Until Late January

In accordance with Ontario's province-wide shutdown, Queen's University has officially asked all staff and students to stay off campus until January 23, 2021.

The request came in the form of a news release by the post-secondary institution on Wednesday.

The university is strongly urging all students to avoid returning to Kingston until after the shutdown ends on Jan. 23, unless absolutely necessary.  Queen's University

This includes students living both on and off campus and anyone, including international students, planning to travel to Kingston to start school during the winter term.

The university is also advising international students to delay their travel to Canada for as long as possible.

Any students who were expecting to move into residential buildings come January are being asked to wait until the provincial lockdown ends.

Although there are few in-person classes still ongoing, any remaining ones will be delayed.

These initiatives are meant to support the province-wide lockdown, which will begin on Boxing Day and will last for 28 days in Southern and Eastern Ontario, and 14 days in Northern Ontario.

The university thanked students and staff for their efforts this year in their statement:

"Queen’s wishes to thank everyone for their efforts to date and to encourage everyone to continue to do their part to keep their family, friends, and community safe from the spread of COVID-19."
