While it's been a rough start to the Toronto Blue Jays' 2025 season, fans at the Rogers Centre were treated to a truly special moment of skill and athleticism by one of their players on Tuesday night.

Despite losing 10-2 to the Boston Red Sox, outfielder Daulton Varsho produced a highlight reel moment that'll be played on the montage for his retirement one day.

It's very easy to see how Varsho won the American League's Gold Glove Award in 2024 when he produces catches like this.

What's all the more impressive is that this was Varsho's first game of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in September 2024.

The clip posted by the Toronto Blue Jays' X account has gone viral on the platform.

It was the top of the fourth inning with Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, who is hitting .273, in the batter's box. Blue Jays pitcher Dillon Tate threw it, and Duran connected with a sweet hit.

It was going for the back wall in centre-field as Varsho scrambled and tripped over himself going for the ball. However, what happened next is crazy.

The Blue Jays' number five tumbled, regained his footing and made a speculator catch. Cue a loud roar from the home support.

"Did he catch that ball?" Sportsnet commentator Dan Shulman asked bemusingly.

"Yes, he caught that ball!" he exclaimed.

The camera focused on Tate, who looked completely awestruck and then switched to Varsho, who had a cheeky grin.

Duran also smiled as he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

What makes the clip even better is that you can hear Shulman's broadcast partner, Buck Martinez, erupting into laughter in the background.

The Toronto Blue Jays currently sit on a 13-16 record, having gone 5-11 since April 9, when they sat on an 8-5 record.

They will host the Red Sox again on Wednesday night at the Rogers Centre at 7:07 p.m.

While it looks like another down year, hopefully, Blue Jays players can make more highlight plays like that.
