While most places in the city remain closed, at least one beloved winter activity is still on — Toronto's ice rinks will open at the end of the month.

Mayor Tory made the announcement on Wednesday, saying he hopes that all city-operated, fully-functional outdoor rinks will be open as early as this Saturday.

The ice rinks will have reduced capacities and a reservation system, but otherwise, all of Toronto's natural and artificial rinks will open.

Toronto's artificial rinks are also preparing to open. In total, there will be 54 outdoor skating areas available to the public.*

The maximum capacity will be set at 25 people at any time.

The City will leave a few spots open for those who can't sign up online but is urging residents to use the online booking system to "avoid any unnecessary crowding."

This reservation system is similar to what the City did with the community pools over the summer.

You may not be able to attend holiday gatherings or go Christmas shopping in-person this year, but at least you can glide down fresh ice and bask in winter cheer.
