Toronto Islands' Beaches Are Finally Reopening For Summer On Canada Day

It's time to catch some rays. All of Toronto Islands' beaches will be finally opening up for the summer on Canada Day and it's the perfect excuse to get your bathing suit out. These join a list of six other beaches that have already opened in the 6ix.

Many of Toronto's pools and splash pads are looking at reopening by Canada Day and now it looks like more beaches are too.

According to a release by the City of Toronto, four Toronto Island Park beaches will be open for swimming on July 1.

So, if you were feeling down thinking of the summer season passing you by without a trip to the Islands, things might be looking up!

Just last month, Mayor John Tory announced that reopening the Islands and getting them back to normal was going to be much more difficult than usual.

“We are very conscious of the fact that people want to use the islands and the businesses over there want to have the people over there and we are looking at it all the time but I expect it will be a while yet before that is open,” said Tory back in May.

But now, as Toronto heads into stage two of reopening plans in the province on June 24, many recreational activities are welcoming the public back.

Narcity has reached out to the City of Toronto for what's to come in terms of ferries and scheduling for trips to the island.

Aside from the Islands, six other beaches in Toronto had already officially reopened for swimming as of June 22.

Those were Bluffer’s Park Beach, Cherry/Clarke Beach, Kew-Balmy Beach, Marie Curtis Park East Beach, Sunnyside Beach, and Woodbine Beach.

It should be noted that Scarborough's Rouge Valley Beach remains closed.

But it's been evident that beaches like Woodbine Beach and Cherry Beach have been enjoyed to their fullest by some in recent weeks.

Maybe a little too much, as trash was left all over the place in some cases.

Even Premier Doug Ford was shocked to see the massive crowds that formed on the beaches this past weekend, comparing it to those in Florida.

Yikes! 

With more beaches reopening, staff will be hoping people respect the environment and remember about the importance of social distancing.
