Following a recent outbreak, one Toronto school teacher has been fined after it was discovered that they were not wearing proper PPE. 

On October 23, inspectors were sent to St. Charles Catholic School to investigate the matter. 

The staff member was charged under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for not wearing a face mask, 680 News reports.

The board takes seriously the safety and well-being of all staff and students. The TCDSB is conducting an investigation of this matter.

Toronto Catholic District School Board 

The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) told Narcity that the charged staff member is currently on leave as they investigate. 

"Staff have been trained on best practices and protocols to ensure the safety of everyone in a school setting," the TCDSB told Narcity in an email.

"The Board of Trustees approved a motion requiring all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks while indoors."

The teacher is set to appear in court on February 2 and can face charges of up to $1,000. 

The school was closed earlier this month when an outbreak of COVID-19 was reported.
