On Monday, October 26, Dr. Bonnie Henry addressed the public with a B.C. COVID-19 update

Over the weekend, the province confirmed a record-breaking 817 new cases and three more deaths.

Dr. Henry said the increase of cases is still a result of gatherings over Thanksgiving long weekend. She called it a “sobering weekend.”

Now, the health official is limiting gatherings inside homes to household members and an additional “safe six.” She said even this amount might be too many for smaller spaces.

While the provincial gathering limit outside of homes will remain at 50, there will be new rules and more enforcement to ensure everyone can actually be two metres apart, among other things.

“This is not the time for Halloween parties,” said Henry. “That is not what we need. That cannot happen, and now there is an order in place that restricts that."

She said that at this time, we simply need to focus on small groups.

“The orders are enforceable by bylaw officers, police officers and environmental health officers.”
