Things got pretty wind on Halloween in Vancouver and photos and videos of the events are all over social media this morning.

On Saturday, October 31 and into Sunday, November 1, Granville Street was reportedly filled with crowds of people partying and celebrating Halloween.

A quick glance at the footage shows that many people weren't wearing masks and there was no social distancing happening.

Though, the Vancouver Police Department did not make any arrests directly linked to the crowds or anything regarding health orders.

In fact, VPD retweeted a messaged from a Vancouver City counsellor which read "There is no public health order prohibiting large gatherings outside. There is only one for inside homes. The VPD can only ticket/enforce health orders that have been issued, not warnings. They can only use existing laws to enforce offences like creating disturbances, etc."

They said they had responded to 800 calls that evening and "when officers are tied up attending multiple stabbings, serious assaults and robberies - policing masks and social distancing isn't our first priority."

One police officer, Cst Lee Marten, said a group of them had been surrounded by an angry crowd and needed to call for backup.

Though police didn't spend their evening breaking up the crowds, they did tell CTV News that they were disappointed that Vancouverites chose not to listen to the advice of local health officials.
