The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is warning Canadians that an inmate has escaped from a Canadian prison in B.C. overnight.

In a press release issued on October 29, it said that a man had somehow not been accounted for and was missing from the establishment.

Roderick Muchikekwanape, 41, a man serving a life sentence for first-degree murder was discovered missing during a late-night count. When staff members could not find him, they quickly alerted the RCMP.

The escapee is described as standing at 6 feet tall, weighing 217 pounds, with a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone who knows where Muchikekwanape is should contact the police.

The CSC also took to Twitter to alert the public.

"Inmate Roderick Muchikekwanape escaped from the minimum-security unit of Mission Institution in Mission B.C. Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the inmate is asked to contact police," the tweet read.

The federal agency said it is investigating the circumstances of what occurred and is working with the police to locate the man "as quickly as possible."

This is not the first or second time this year that inmates have escaped. The CSC also could not locate an inmate in June at a Saskatchewan penitentiary, and another time in May at an Alberta minimum-security federal institution.
