Right after the province saw a new spike in COVID-19 cases over recent days, they announced that restaurant rules in B.C. are getting a makeover soon.

In their daily update on Wednesday, July 22, the B.C. government said that, because of current COVID-19 risks in restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, a bunch of new rules are on the way.

Recognizing the risks within bars and nightclubs and the recent links to exposure in these locations, the provincial health officer’s order is being amended.

While the order hasn't been amended yet, the coming changes include: making patrons sit at designated seats, banning liquor self-service and dancing, and installing new measures to lower line-ups or gatherings outside.

They also wrote there'll be "changes in the requirements" of events to curb transmission risk, but haven't revealed what these will be yet.

Because current cases reflect our actions one to two weeks ago, according to the government of Alberta, it could be weeks before the effects of these changes are seen.
