Facebook, however, believes women deserve recognition for supporting each other and their communities amid the pandemic.

"Canadian women have played leading roles in lifting up other women in their communities, contributing to causes, and building businesses, even as the impact of COVID-19 threatens to reverse decades of women's progress at home, work and economically," the tech giant told Narcity.

The company wants to highlight women who are pushing the envelope in their local communities.

Here are six Canadian women doing amazing things across the country.

Zena Chaudhry

Why You Should Know Them: Zena Chaudhry is the chief executive officer of Sakeenah Homes, a shelter project that works to provide a safe place for Muslim women and children. She raised $10,000 in funds to create packages filled with food, essentials and toiletries for women.

Why You Should Know Them: Esmahan Razavi is the co-founder of Ask Her, a platform used to get more women elected to Calgary's city council and set them up for success in the political sphere. Ask Her believes in representation in municipal governments and wants to make the journey easier for women.

Why You Should Know Them: Bunny and Taran Ghatrora are two sisters hailing from B.C. who run a self-care brand called Blume, which seeks to destigmatize periods.
