Getting the COVID-19 vaccine could make you $1 million richer! Alberta's vaccine lottery just launched and the prizes will be available to all Albertans over the age of 18.

On Saturday, June 12, Premier Jason Kenney announced the "Open for Summer" vaccine lottery program, which is set to offer three $1 million prizes to locals who've received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in Canada.

The lottery aims to encourage more people in the province to get vaccinated, as Kenney suggested the demand for COVID-19 vaccines in the region has dropped.

"Many places around the world have launched similar lotteries like this because we need to just nudge those who haven't gotten around to getting their vaccines yet," he said.

The first draw for the lottery is set to take place on the "first day" This will happen when 70% of eligible residents have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

More details of the program will be revealed in the coming days.

Earlier this week, Manitoba became the first province in Canada to launch a vaccine lottery. Officials in the region are dishing out $1.4 million in prizes and residents as young as 12 years old can get involved.
