Starting this weekend, all of Newfoundland and Labrador will return to Alert Level 2, which means up to 50 people will be able to gather at events and households can have up to 20 regular contacts.

Confirming the announcement on March 24, the province's chief medical officer of health revealed there had only been two new cases of COVID-19 in the past seven days.

"We have not seen evidence of biotransmission stemming from either the outbreak or new sources, and in addition, we have not had any new non-epi-linked cases related to the outbreak in at least 28 days,”  Dr. Janice Fitzgerald added.

The latest Alert Level 2 restrictions will allow up to 50 people to gather at weddings, funerals and faith-based services.

Newfoundland and Labrador households will be able to have up to 20 close and consistent contacts, while local restaurants, bars and lounges will be able to reopen to in-person dining at 50% capacity.
