This enchanting experience in Ontario will have you digging for glistening gemstones. Amethyst Mine Panorama, located in Northern Ontario, is reopening soon and you can hunt for dazzling stones.

The "must-see" attraction is located about 60 kilometres from Thunder Bay and is set to reopen for the season on June 1, 2024.

Offering self-guided tours and amethyst hunting experiences, Amethyst Mine Panorama is a magical spot for a summer adventure.

The 5-acre digging area is "loaded with amethyst" and you can hunt for real sparkling gems. There are four colours of amethyst at the mine — purple, lavender, red and black.

Once you've found your stones, you can head to the washing and sorting station to clean the gems.

You won't need any tools to hunt for these purple stones, but the mine does offer pails, a digging tool and running water to help you with your search.

Keep in mind that digging for amethysts can be messy, so you'll want to make sure you wear closed-toe shoes or runners.

The mine also offers guided and self-guided tours which "highlight the history, geology and mineralogy of Amethyst Mine Panorama."

Before you leave, you'll want to check out the Welcome Centre where you can shop for amethyst jewelry, gifts, and souvenirs and grab some food and drinks.

Admission costs $10 and you can purchase the amethysts you find for $5 per pound.

If you're looking for a fun summer adventure, this glittering attraction is a true hidden "gem."
