Health Canada Just Said The Benefits Of AstraZeneca's Vaccine Outweigh The Risks

Distribution was paused for Canadians under 55 years old. 💉
Managing Editor, Canada

Just days after the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was suspended in regions across the country, Health Canada has said the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the possible risks.

Earlier this week, multiple provinces confirmed they would be pausing distribution of the vaccine in Canadians under 55 years old, following updated guidance from Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).

In a series of tweets, Health Canada confirmed that it was working with the European Medicines Agency and other international regulators to investigate reports of blood clots in people vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“Based on all of the evidence available internationally to date, Health Canada continues to consider that the benefits of the #AstraZeneca and #Covishield #vaccines to protect against #COVID19 outweigh the potential risks,” the agency confirmed on March 31.

The federal agency said that it will continue to investigate possible risks associated with the vaccine and promised to update Canadians when appropriate.

Health Canada has a robust website with all the latest information on the vaccines and can answer any questions you may have. Click here for more information.
