'We Are Not There Yet': Bonnie Henry Says BC Isn't Ready To Ease Any Health Restrictions

The curve is on an upward trajectory.

On Thursday, February 25, Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, provided a B.C. COVID-19 update for the public.

She announced 395 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours and 10 additional deaths.

She said that there have been 16 new COVID-19 virus variant cases recorded in the last 24 hours but only nine of those are currently active.

"Over the last month, we have been closely monitoring our new cases and our rates of transmission so that we can better understand when we can safely open up," said Dr. Henry.

The health official noted that the numbers are not currently where they need to be to consider reopening of any kind.

"We are continuing to watch these indicators and when we have confidence that they are slowing in a sustained way, that is when we will be able to ease restrictions, but we are not there yet," she continued.

Henry noted that health officials are looking ahead into March to see when we can safely increase our social interactions

She said that everyone is keen to get back to the place where we can safely visit with family and friends and travel, even just within the province.

"It is, as always, our individual actions that make a difference collectively," she explained.
