BC Just Prohibited 'All Gatherings And Events' Beyond Christmas & New Year's Eve

On Monday, December 7, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister Adrian Dix addressed the public for a B.C. COVID-19 update. 

Back in November when officials increased restrictions and banned social gatherings throughout the province, December 7 was the re-assessment day they put forth.  

Now, on that day, Dr. Henry announced that British Columbia is extending current health orders, which ban social gatherings and events until midnight on January 8, 2021.

Today I am now issuing the following orders which are in effect immediately. I’m extending my public events and gatherings order of December 4th to midnight of January 8, 2021. Bonnie Henry

Henry said that the orders that have been in place are working and therefore we cannot let up just yet. 

“We can’t lose sight of the fact that we continue to have very high levels of transmission and community spread here in British Columbia," said Henry. 

The same rules will remain for gatherings including those in place for those who live alone. 

Though, the health official did make some exceptions. She said that "drive-thru and drive-in to drop off and leave" events will be allowed. So, that would include things like drive-thru light shows or holiday toy drives. 

She also said that drive-in and stay events can run with a limit of 50 cars and only with household members in your vehicle.

This comes after 2,020 cases were recorded over the weekend. 

"I understand that, for many of us, this will mean celebrating the important and coming holidays in a different and smaller way than we are used to. We can, though, still be festive. We can still connect with family and with friends in a safe and virtual way," Henry put forth.
