Calgary was ranked the best place to live in Canada but locals have some thoughts

"I love my city, but no."

Contributor

A recent ranking named Calgary as the best place to live in Canada with the best quality of life for 2024, and despite the results of the data, some Canadians disagree.

The Moving Waldo ranking took into consideration three criteria: quality of life, level of crime and affordability. They gathered data on online forums and looked at factors like affordability, job opportunities, education, safety, and public transportation.

Calgary took the top spot, as a safer city option with "reasonably priced" housing.

Curious to see what our readers thought about Calgary being dubbed Canada's best city to live in for quality of life, we took to Facebook to see the reaction — and people had some opinions.

Victoria got some shoutouts

Apparently, Victoria is a city that's catching Canadians' eyes. One commenter said "I love my city, but no. I’d move to Victoria in a heartbeat."

"Apparently these people have never been to Victoria eh lol," another wrote.

Seriously, people were team B.C., because another said "nope, Vancouver Island is."

The weather was dissed

While it might be more affordable than other cities, it comes at a cost for some. "Perhaps if you love winters," one person replied. Another said in their comment that in Calgary they "have way too much winter [and] it gets far too cold."

Another person called the city out for its lack of Michelin-star restaurants and big concert venues.

The general sentiment was that not a lot of people were coming to Calgary's defence!
