Calgary Might Be Getting An Urban Beach With An Epic 'River Wave Park' For Surfing

A beach in the middle of the city? Don't mind if I do.

The Alberta River Surfing Association and the Alberta Whitewater Association are working with Surf Anywhere and other partners with hopes to bring a Calgary river wave park to the city's downtown.

The development, planned to take place at 10th Street Bridge, is intended to be completed between 2025 and 2030.

The project has already completed several of the stages needed to move forward, but it still requires more fundraising and engineering work. 

If the river surf park comes to life it will include a wave for surfers that is adjustable, a natural channel for floating, a deep, slow pool, and of course, the urban beach. 

Calgary has a huge river surfing community and events always bring crowds of spectators. This way, you can surf or watch while kicking back like you're in Miami.
