Majority Of Canada's Opioid Overdose Deaths Were Young People & Men

From pandemic to an epidemic, Canada is dealing with a lot when it comes to health. That's because the opioid crisis is still an issue the county is currently facing too.
National data released today, suggests that the majority of Canada's opioid overdose deaths are happening to the male population and younger Canadians.
From January 1 to March 31, 2020, 75% of accidental apparent opioid-related deaths happened among men and 89% occurred among people between the ages of 20 and 59.

Accidental opioid deaths among men
More than 4,560 suspected opioid-related overdoses occurred between January and March 2020 based on Emergency Medical Services data from nine provinces and territories.
In 2020, between the month of January and March, there were 1,067 hospitalizations due to opioid-related poisoning.
64% were classified as unintentional.
In that same time frame, there were 1,018 deaths and 96% were somewhat accidental.
Western Canada is still the most impacted region of the country.
However, rates have gotten higher in other regions, such as Ontario.
