Since the Canada-U.S. border was first closed back in March, there have been seven separate extensions to the non-essential travel ban.

With the current restrictions set to end on November 21, there has been no word as to whether it will be extended once again.

This means travel between the two countries could be possible again by as early as Saturday.

That said, Prime Minister Trudeau has made it very clear in the past that he’s not prepared to take any risks!

November 21 The current scheduled reopening date

While an eighth extension has not been confirmed by Canada or the U.S., Trudeau previously said that he wouldn’t consider reopening the border until America’s COVID-19 cases were under control.

In the last few days, the country reported 11 million total cases of the illness, which means another extension is definitely possible.

In a tweet about the ongoing border closure last month, Canada's Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair explained that the restrictions will continue to be renewed if they need to.

“Our decisions will continue to be based on the best public health advice available to keep Canadians safe,” he said.

Travel restrictions between the two countries were first implemented back in March.

While some aspects of the rules have been updated, the border remains closed to the majority of non-essential travellers.
