Over 80,000 People Have Signed A Petition To Get CERB Repayments Cancelled
For thousands of Canadians, CERB repayments may be just around the corner. However, a new online petition is calling on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to cancel the calls for repayments.
At the time of writing, the online petition had over 80,000 signatures, with the document urging the agency to forgive those who incorrectly applied for the benefit in good faith.

The document notes that 441,000 Canadians have been contacted by the CRA about repayments, with some people owing as much as $14,000.
Some of those asked to return money were confused about eligibility requirements, particularly related to income for self-employed people.
“Many of these applicants applied for these benefits in good faith, reading and rereading the application eligibility requirements several times to ensure that they would meet them,” reads the petition.
While the government has accepted responsibility for the confusion, officials have said there is no plan to scrap repayments.
Politicians, such as NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Green Party leader Annamie Paul, have repeatedly called on Justin Trudeau to end calls for repayments.
While there is no set deadline for the CERB to be returned, the CRA has advised people to repay before December 31 to ensure their taxes aren’t affected in 2021.
