There are only a few reports so far of people having reactions.

With people now getting the COVID-19 vaccine, Canada is keeping track of what reactions people have afterwards and making that information public.

Dr. Theresa Tam announced on January 8 that online reports about vaccines will be updated every Friday afternoon with information on how many people had reactions, their age and sex, the vaccine type and the exact reactions.

9 number of adverse events reports as of January 1

As of January 1, 115,072 doses have been administered in Canada with nine reports of adverse events.

Four of those were non-serious and five were serious but that doesn't necessarily mean it was related to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Also, a single report can have more than one adverse event because the person might experience multiple side effects.

In the nine reports so far, there were 65 reactions with eight serious ones as follows:

  • 2 Anaphylaxis
  • 1 Headache
  • 1 Severe allergic reaction
  • 1 Facial paralysis
  • 1 Chills
  • 1 Syncope
  • 1 Pain in extremity

The most frequent non-serious reactions were ones at the injection site, nausea, tingling sensations, itchy anus and hives.

In December, Justin Trudeau said that serious side effects are "incredibly rare" and that "vaccines are safe and effective."
