Hours after the provincial government announced that the city was moving into the Red-Control zone, an ice rink in London, Ontario was packed with skaters. A video taken by London resident Dr. Ben Cowie showed the crowds at the Victoria Park rink at around 8:15 p.m. on Friday.According to Global News, there were approximately 150 skaters that evening. In the provincial Orange-Restrict zone, outdoor sporting events can have 100 people where distancing is maintained. Lynn Loubert, Division Manager of Aquatics, Arenas, and Parks Operations with the City of London, confirmed to Narcity that the capacity was in fact 100 people, with distancing. "Families from the same household were allowed to be together, but distance should be maintained between others," she elaborated. A representative from London's Park and Recreation department explained that Victoria Park was the only ice rink accepting first come, first serve drop-in skaters on Friday evening. Cowie was disappointed by the sight at Victoria Park on Friday. "I get that people want to be outside and active, but this isn't it," he said to Narcity. "I estimated no more than 20% were wearing masks."
