Ontario Is Getting Over 50,000 Moderna Vaccines This Month & This Is Where They're Going

"We are taking another step towards ending this terrible pandemic."
Contributor

Just hours after the initial approval, Doug Ford has announced that there will be over 50,000 Ontario Moderna vaccines arriving in the province this month.

In a statement, the province explained that the new vaccine is "more mobile" since it doesn't need to be stored at extremely cold temperatures like the Pfizer BioNTech version.

Those initial 53,000 vaccines will arrive before the end of the month and go directly to "frontline health care workers and residents in long-term care homes and retirement homes, as well as adults in Indigenous populations," according to the premier.

Ontario is currently in phase one of its vaccination rollout, meaning that the province is focusing on vaccinating health care workers and vulnerable people.

The majority of the province will be vaccinated during phase two, which is scheduled to begin in the spring "when Ontario receives more of the ordered doses of vaccine from both Pfizer and Moderna, and potentially other vaccines," said Ford in his statement.

Ford expressed his relief over introducing another COVID-19 vaccine into the health care system.

"This is phenomenal news for Ontarians and Canadians - yet another life-saving COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for safe and effective use in the province and in the country," he said.

"We are taking another step towards ending this terrible pandemic," Ford continued.
