On December 23, Health Canada authorized the second COVID-19 vaccine for distribution across the country.

December 23 The Moderna vaccine was approved in Canada

This comes exactly two weeks after the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine became the first to be authorized on December 9.

Health Canada told Narcity that this vaccine candidate is for people 18 years of age or older, but Moderna is doing studies to see if it can be administered to children aged 12 and over.

Justin Trudeau recently confirmed that Canada has secured an early shipment of Moderna vaccine doses and that means 168,000 vials could be delivered with 48 hours of approval.

Ontario said that the province has dibs on up to 85,000 doses of this vaccine.

The federal government has secured a total of up to 56 million doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Canada has come under scrutiny recently for vaccine hoarding, which is hurting other countries.
