With rising case counts and the spread of variants in the region, Peel schools are closing down starting on Tuesday.

According to a statement from Dr. Lawrence Loh, Peel's Medical Officer of Health, on Monday afternoon, all schools in the region must be closed for in-class learning as of April 6 and will be for at least two weeks.

The Section 22 order applies to Dufferin Peel District Catholic School Board, Peel District School Boards, Conseil Scolaire Viamonde, Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir and all private schools, all of which will now have to move to remote learning until at least end-of-day on April 18.

April Break spring camps for school-age children will also be cancelled, according to the statement, but licensed child care programs for children under 6 years of age who are not attending school will stay open.

"I know this will be challenging for parents to navigate and we appreciate all the sacrifices parents continue to make as we continue to fight COVID-19 in our community," said Dr. Loh in his statement.
