'Texit': The Lone Star State Could Actually Secede If This New Bill Goes Through

But is this even legal?
Contributor

Yes, a Texas representative actually wants to file a bill that would allow the state to secede from the United States.

Kyle Biedermann, a Texas state representative for District 73, said on his social media accounts that he has actually plans to submit a bill that would allow Texans to vote to re-establish the state as an independent nation.

Biedermann says he wants to file the bill because he believes the federal government is out of control and it's time for a change.

Of course, those on Twitter were quick to make jokes.

But what may come as a shock to you is that some are actually on board with the idea.

Lucky for Texans who would like to remain a part of the United States, seceding is actually completely illegal according to the "Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States," which was approved on March 1, 1845.

The resolution states that Texas could in fact legally divide itself into multiple different states, but not actually fully secede from the U.S.
