Parts of the United States could be facing some severe winter weather this week at the hands of two different storm systems making their way through the country.

The first system will be dumping heavy snowfall through Central Plains all the way to the Atlantic coast until Tuesday night, but one state will be getting it a little harder than others.

2 Inches  Of snow per hour

Iowa may be seeing the worst of the snowfall, as the Weather Prediction Center via CNN says a whopping two inches of snow per hour could fall throughout the state.

"On average, single daily snowfalls of a foot or more only historically occur every 15 to 20 years," said the National Weather Service in Des Moines.

CNN reports this could be the first time the city of Des Moines, Iowa has seen a foot of snow in one day since 2004.

The western United States is also getting hit by a separate winter storm system, which will be moving through the region Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Sierra Nevada region is set to be the hardest hit with snow according to CNN.
