I Tried Canada’s Newest Hard Lemonade Seltzer & Here’s What I Thought

Spoiler alert: It's my perfect summer drink.

Sponsored Content Contributing Writer, Studio

With summer just around the corner — and with it arriving already in some parts of the country — this is the time of the year that I start to enjoy drinking a cool, refreshing hard seltzer.

There's really nothing like having the hot summer sun shining down on your shoulders, some good music playing and sipping on a fizzy, bubbly drink on your balcony, am I right?

Plus, as someone who likes to put a healthy lifestyle first, I always make an effort to eat and drink things that I feel good about, and when it comes to alcohol, hard seltzers typically check every box.

With so many of these fizz-filled drinks popping up on shelves at every store that sells liquor, I was on the hunt to find my summer drink. You know the one that becomes a staple in your fridge and never lets you down, even when you're not 100% sure what you feel like? That's what I was looking for.

I decided to try Lemon Life Hard Lemonade Seltzer to see if it could be my go-to this summer.

Before I had even taken a sip, I was immediately impressed when I turned the can to look at the nutrition facts, boasting only 100 calories and 1g of sugar for the 355 ml can. I was excited and intrigued to taste it.

Other top coolers in Canada can have over 20g of sugar per can, which is way too sweet for my palate and drinking that much sugar doesn't fit into my lifestyle. Plus, in case gluten isn't your friend, Lemon Life Hard Lemonade Seltzer is made with naturally gluten-free ingredients.

My first sip felt like summer. It was light and had an excellent full lemon flavour that wasn't too tart. For only 1g of sugar, I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet it actually tasted. I generally really like anything citrus flavoured so this was right up my alley.

It was also nice that this didn't taste watered down like some hard seltzers on the market can be.

The flavour was nostalgic for me — it reminded me of a fizzy lemonade drink that I used to have as a kid, which immediately put a smile on my face. It also reminded me of a cooler that I had sipped on in the past, but I loved knowing that this one contained fewer calories and less sugar.

As someone who wants to know more about any product they're consuming, I naturally went to my phone to search more about this new-to-me brand. What I found was pretty interesting.

I found out that the lemon flavour comes from hand-picked lemons grown on family-owned farms, and they use a special cold-pressed method that extracts the most lemon flavour possible. So cool!

Plus, not only does Lemon Life have the Lemonade flavour, but they also have three others — Strawberry, Mango, and Pineapple — that I'll definitely try out this summer.

Overall, I liked Lemon Life Hard Lemonade Seltzer a lot. It's sweet and refreshing, offering great taste without extras like sugar and calories that I don't want. Plus, it's a perfect bubbly alternative to beverages like beer, especially if you have a gluten intolerance or would rather sip on something sweet.

I can see myself grabbing the variety pack to switch up the flavours, to share with my pals at the beach during a summer barbecue or to bring along to a socially distant picnic with a few friends.
