It’s time to get serious! That’s the message coming from new president-elect Joe Biden on Monday, as he urged Americans to wear masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Monday, November 9, Biden addressed the news that Pfizer’s new COVID-19 vaccine trials are going well.

However, the president-to-be warned Americans that a “dark winter” was ahead and said following public health advice would be imperative in the coming months.

We could save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months. Joe Biden

Explaining that thousands of people could be saved if everyone wore a mask, Biden said, “Not Democratic or Republican lives, American lives.”

“Please, I implore you, wear a mask,” he concluded.

Donald Trump took a break from tweeting about the election to acknowledge the new reports about the Pfizer vaccine, too.

“STOCK MARKET UP BIG, VACCINE COMING SOON. REPORT 90% EFFECTIVE. SUCH GREAT NEWS!,” he wrote on Monday.

The two American leaders’ comments come as the country recorded a record-breaking number of new COVID-19 cases, just one day after the election.
